Removal and installation of the DME control unit

Each control unit is programmed by certain values. The control unit depending on a condition of the engine obtains various data from sensors. These values are compared to the values which are contained in memory of the block. On the basis of comparison the block gives out the corresponding managing directors of team. It is possible to enter new values into the block, i.e. "to train" it.

If the control unit does not receive more than one hour food (it is removed or the rechargeable battery is switched-off), then the data obtained as a result of training are lost.

At repeated commisioning of the block or installation new it is necessary to enter new data into system. This process after start can lead to unstable operation of the engine and hindrances at the movement in the mode of compulsory idling. It is necessary to pass several minutes on the car with change by the speed that all values in the block were adjusted in compliance with a condition of the engine.

After installation of the new control unit it needs to be coded and programmed that is carried out by BMW. The special device of diagnostics/input is for this purpose necessary. If it is possible, pass on the car with the old control unit and then install the new device on the warmed engine. It accelerates process of setup of the block.

REMOVAL

1. At removal of the control unit it is recommended to bring values out of memory of malfunctions on HUNDRED BMWs. It allows to reveal malfunctions, address the Section Memory of Malfunctions.

2. Disconnect a cable of mass of the rechargeable battery. The battery is in a luggage carrier behind the right side facing.

It is necessary to observe the instructions provided in the Section Removal and installation of the rechargeable battery

3. Remove a filter box in a motive compartment behind on the right that it was possible to reach electronics box, address the Section Removal and installation of the drive of a screen wiper/cover.

4. Turn off bolts of fastening and disconnect a cover from the block of safety locks.

5. Rasstykuyte shtekerny connection, having opened a clip. Address an accompanying illustration.

6. Take out the control unit from clips. Bolts of fastening of clips should not be turned off.

On cars with AT about the DME control unit there is one more block.


INSTALLATION

1. Upon purchase of the new control unit it is necessary to know number and the coding of old. It is for this purpose recommended to take it with itself.
2. Insert the control unit, join shtekerny connection. Close a connection stopper.
3. Establish covers.
4. Install the rechargeable battery.
5. If the control unit was cut off power more than one hour or the new block is installed: Warm up the engine up to the working temperature. Pass about 10 min. with a variable speed. At the same time the control unit will obtain necessary data.
