Start of the engine from the auxiliary power supply

At start of the engine do not use auxiliary aerosols!

It is necessary to observe an order of connection of the auxiliary starting battery, otherwise there is a danger of poisoning with the gases which are emitted in the course of charging. Besides, there is a danger of traumatizing owing to possible explosion of the rechargeable battery or damage of onboard electronics of the car.


1. Cross section of a starting cable for petrol engines up to 2.5 l has to make not less than 16 of mm2 (corresponds to diameter about 5 mm). For diesel engines or petrol engines more than 2.5 l cross section has to make not less than 25 mm2. The provided data belong to the car with the discharged rechargeable battery. Cross section is, as a rule, specified on packing of a cable. It is recommended to buy a starting cable with the isolated clips with a section of 25 mm2 as such cable will be suitable for engines and smaller volume.
2. Both rechargeable batteries have to have tension of 12 Century.
3. The discharged rechargeable battery can freeze already at a temperature - 10 °C. Before accession of a starting cable the frozen rechargeable battery has to be surely defrozen.
4. The discharged rechargeable battery has to be switched on in network of the car according to the instruction.
5. Check the level of electrolyte of the discharged rechargeable battery. If necessary add the distilled water.
6. Cars have to be at the distance from each other excluding their contact. Otherwise, after connection of positive poles the chain will become isolated.
7. On both cars tighten parking brakes. Install the lever of gear shifting in the provision of the neutral course, at automatic transmission install the selector in position of the parking "P".
8. Switch off everything consumers of the electric power.
9. The car engine feeding the rechargeable battery in the course of start-up has to work at single turns surely. Thus, damage of the generator owing to tension throws in the course of start is excluded.
10. Do not allow near the rechargeable battery of availability of fire or the burning cigarette as in the course of a charge from the rechargeable battery combustible gases are emitted.
11. You watch that the starting cable was not damaged by the rotating engine details, for example, cooling fan.

The starting cable joins in the following sequence:


1. The cable of red color joins a positive pole in a motive compartment of the started car.

Previously cast away a cover. If the started car is not the BMW car of the 5th series, cable joins a positive pole of the rechargeable battery.

2. Other end of a red cable joins a positive pole of the feeding rechargeable battery.

3. The black cable joins a weight point on a depreciation rack of the feeding car.

It is the best of all to use for this purpose the metal part which is reliably connected to a motive compartment. If the car is not the BMW car of the 5th series, cable joins a negative pole of the rechargeable battery.

4. Other end of a black cable joins a weight point on the right depreciation rack of the fed car. If the fed car is not the BMW car of the 5th series, attach a cable to a weight point. It is the best of all to use for this purpose the metal detail connected by a carving to the block of cylinders. Under adverse circumstances, in case of accession of a cable to a negative pole of the discharged rechargeable battery because of formation of a spark and release of combustible gas the battery can explode.

Contact of plugs of a starting cable among themselves after accession of cables is not allowed. For this reason positive plugs should not concern weight points (body or the chassis).

5. Accession points for cars with the rechargeable battery in a motive compartment:

Connect wires for start of the car from an auxiliary source in the order specified illustrations by numbers (pay attention that the wire going from the negative plug of the auxiliary battery is not connected to the negative plug of the sat-down battery)

1 — a positive pole (+), the fed rechargeable battery (A)
2 — a positive pole (+) the feeding rechargeable battery (B)
3 — a negative pole (-) the feeding rechargeable battery (B)
4 — a point of weight (X) on the started car.

Start the car engine (discharged rechargeable battery) on single turns. At start include a starter not longer 10 with as owing to big electricity consumption clips and a cable can be warmed. Between separate start-up do a break not less than 30 pages.

Do not incline over the rechargeable battery. Danger of poisoning!

At the BMW cars before shutdown of a starting cable include lighting, heating of back glass and the maximum step of the fan of a heater to exclude emergence of throws of tension from tension regulator to consumers.

After start of the engine disconnect cables in the return sequence: at first a black cable (-) at the started car, then at feeding. The red cable (+) is disconnected at first at the feeding car, then at fed.
