BMW cars of the 5th series
In this manual the BMW models of the 5th series with line six-cylinder petrol engines (DOHC) 2.0, 2.3 and 2.8 of l, release from 12/95 g and the turbodiesel engine (SOHC) of 2.5 l are considered, release from 3/96 g Besides, chosen data (technical characteristics, adjusting data, schemes of electric equipment, procedure of service and questions of operation) on models with V-shaped 8-cylinder engines 3.5 and 4.4 of l are submitted.
The independent aluminum forward suspension bracket is executed on double levers with the beam connected with a body through rubber support, Mac-Ferson's racks, screw springs and gas-filled shock-absorbers. The forward beam via cross levers and drafts is connected with rotary support. The hydraulic opiraniye of cross levers provides compensation of fluctuations even at not balanced wheels. The stabilizer of cross stability is installed.
The multilever aluminum back suspension bracket with a stretcher provides a double elastic suspension bracket of the main transfer. Four cross levers are elastically connected with a stretcher. The stretcher is also elastically connected with a body.
The brake system consists of disk mechanisms on all wheels. Additional drums of the parking brake are established on back wheels. The brake amplifier is used on cars with the petrol engine. The hydraulic system is divided into two contours - one contour of forward brakes, the second - back. Distribution of effort of braking is carried out by anti-blocking system (ABS). The system of automatic stabilization of stability added with the regulator of traction effort of the engine (ASC+T) provides the maximum stability of the car on the road.
For driving steering of gear and rack type with the hydraulic booster whose coefficient of strengthening depends on engine speed serves. On some models the Servotronic hydraulic booster whose coefficient of strengthening depends on the speed of the movement is installed. The safety cushion of the driver is located in a steering wheel.
In the car it can be installed 5-either the 6-staged manual box of gear shifting (MBGS), or 4-or 5-staged automatic transmission with adaptive system of electronic and hydraulic management (AGS). The Steptronic system allowing to choose transfers manually is established on some models.
Arc xenon headlights provide fine visibility of a roadbed.
